A service-based company, often shortened to SBC, builds, runs and supports software or technology for other businesses, its clients. Many large IT services companies hire freshers in big batches through campus drives, with tests that focus on aptitude, reasoning, verbal ability and basic coding.
A service company earns by delivering projects and support for clients. Teams are assigned to client projects, so the kind of work you do depends on the projects the company wins. Companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and Accenture are commonly described as IT services companies.

Read the offer, not the label. Compare the training, the type of projects, the locations, any service agreement, the pay breakup and the growth path. A service company can be a strong start, and the experience can open product company roles later.
SBC stands for service-based company. Its counterpart PBC stands for product-based company.
